The Department of Post publishes a Special Cover to recognise noteworthy occasions. As is well known, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was born on October 31, 1875, served as India’s first home minister. A little-known truth is that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a frequent visitor to Mr Yash Birla and his family’s home, Birla House, a historic building. When Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel passed away, his final voyage was made at Birla House, which is now a heritage building.

For this historic occasion, the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Eknath Shinde was invited as the Chief Guest of the event. During his speech, CM Eknath Shinde about Birla House said a few words. Birla House is not just the residence of Mr Birla, but it is a house associated with the history of India. It is the place where great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, used to visit and have discussions about the freedom movement of India.

Rameshwar Das, his extraordinary great-grandfather, built Birla House, which is located on the outskirts of Malabar Hills, a posh neighbourhood of south Mumbai. Yash Birla, who has a strong belief in the power of spirituality, has decorated his home with a spiritual culture that incorporates the lovely aesthetic of religious culture. Moving forward, you will come across some ancient works of literature, including the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, with saffron covers.

CM Eknath Shinde attended this historic event at Birla House with Mr Yash Birla for India Post Special Cover Release. CM Eknath Shinde about Birla House said, “Iron man Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi have contributed greatly to the freedom of the country. Today I feel fortunate to unveil a Special Cover envelope dedicated to Sardar Patel’s work of national unity and integrity in the historic building Birla House, where these great men lived.” He further described Birla House as “Aitihasik Vastu” (Historical Building).

It is a matter of great honour and pride for the Birla family that CM Eknath Shinde visited their humble abode and spoke such great words about Birla House. Mr Yash Birla puts in constant efforts and hopes to maintain the legacy of their great family.
